Planning a major elevator update

I’m in the planning stages of the next set of elevator features. I won’t go into too much detail, but the elevator car will not need to have floors manually typed into the configuration notecard anymore. Provided you have your doors and controller installed and initialized, the elevator car will download the coordinates right from the doors.

The other feature is something I’m often asked about: “I’m a builder, can you sell me a full-perm elevator kit?” which I always nicely answer no to, as I don’t trust full-perm copies of my best seller floating around Second Life. Instead, I am going to create a copy/transfer builders kit, which contains scripted dummy objects that you build into your structure. Now, when someone buys an elevator, they simply rez it and all of the objects rez to where the dummy objects were – self installation! This of course means that the elevator installation is only as good as the builders positioning of the dummy objects.

Now, I know the first option is do-able, but I haven’t much researched the second one yet. With products like Rez-Foo that do similar things, I don’t see why this can’t be done.

Affiliate Vendors

Earn money by picking up your free Union Micro Affiliate Kit. This kit includes 6 different vendors that tie into my main vendor network server, so your affiliate vendors are always up-to-date. There are 3 different styles varying from 5 to 11 prims each, and 2 sets of vendors – 1 set for elevators, and 1 set for everything else.

Currently affiliates keep 10% of every sale, but I am considering raising this commission. When and if I do, no need to worry, your vendors will instantly sell at the new commission rate without any interaction or updating from you!

You can pick a kit up in-world at Union Micro, or you can grab one at SL Exchange.

RentTrack Released!

Welcome to RentTrack, one of the most versatile non-networked rental systems! This system is jam-packed with features that will give you complete control over your rentals at a great bang for your buck!

At release, RentTrack has just fewer than 50 configurable parameters that you can tweak to your needs! Thankfully, a good portion of these options are set to default settings so you won’t need to touch most of them.

Quality Assurance

I’ve started a new group, “Union Micro Quality Assurance,” which will be a group for beta testers. I haven’t quite figured out the exact mechanics of how it will work yet, but basically you will be given time-limited beta products from me, and will be paid L$ for every NON-REPORTED bug you find (i.e. no one else has reported it). A little more fun than camping, I would think. 🙂

Bugs will be reported via the beta forum at UnionMicro.net. You will need to sign up on the forum and be invited to the testers group, so you will need to send me your forum login name. Testing is open to anyone, although not everyone will get to test all products. Also, I’m NOT looking for bugs in all products, just the ones listed below for now. Read on for more…

RentTrack is on the way!

RentTrack, originally intended for the indefinitely-on-hold ShopTrack, is nearing completion. I was creating this as a rental system to tie in with ShopTrack and be web based, but seeing as ShopTrack went down the tubes, I’m going to release RentTrack as a stand-alone rental system rather than just can the whole thing.

I’m not going to give too many details on its feature list yet, but some things it’s not is server-based or web-based… all boxes are stand-alone. I aim for RentTrack to be a mid-range rental system – not super extravagant and not super pricey, but yet it will have a hefty feature set.

If you’re in the rentals business and are interested in beta testing RentTrack, drop me a message.

More to come!

NOTE: Go here for some more information from when I was making this for ShopTrack.

Elevator Update Available!

I’ve updated the elevator system to use llRegionSay now! This allows you to build your elevator as tall as you want without the 200m limit that previous versions had. I’ve also added full-bright to elevator car button illumination and the ability to turn off the teleport feature after enabling it via the controller.

llRegionSay()

I’m going to try and convert the existing elevator communications from the llShout function that uses the controller object to the new llRegionSay function. This should eliminate the distance limits altogether. I’d like to get rid of the controller entirely but it’s a necessary element to initialize the TP function and to test communications.

I want to get back into the swing of releasing some updates but my work schedule is a little crazy. So, look for these updates “soon.”

ShopTrack Canceled – Code for sale – RECALLED

This offer has been recalled. I’m no longer offering any of ShopTrack.
I just can’t seem to find the time to invest into ShopTrack right now, nor do I have the motivation to do it. So, it is being shelved like many other Union Micro products that I just can’t get finished.

If you are an SL developer with web development experience that would be interested in purchasing the ShopTrack code, let me know. The purchase would include the sales server scripts, integration scripts that are completed, data server scripts, visitor counter scripts, PHP scripts, database schemas, and the ShopTrack domain if interested. RentTrack will not be included in this package. Check out shoptrack.net and look in the forums to see what progress has been made on the project for a better idea of what is for sale. All scripts will be open-source.

Please, only serious offers. This project has had months of development on it by me.

Code is offered as-is. There will be no support or documentation provided.

I’m back!

I’m back in town now and working at my new job. I’m working quite a few hours so I do not currently have time to work on projects in Second Life. Remember, if you need technical support to use the Support -> Contact Us link at the top of the site. You may also ask for assistance in the Union Micro Support group in-world.
