Away on business!

I’m currently away on business in Ohio for the month of April, so I will not be logging into SL. As stated below, I would greatly appreciate it if you would send e-mail using the contact form at the top of this page, rather than IMing me in-world. I know some of you may think of that as bad customer service, but I’m only one person and the only way I can manage to support everyone is if you send me mail instead of IMing me. IMs tend to get lost among other IMs and whenever I respond to an IM through email lately it is returned as undeliverable by SL mail servers, so it never makes it in-world.

I do have internet access here, so I am able to respond to emails.

Not responding to IMs…

Second Life’s email-to-IM has not been working for me for quite some time. Therefor if you want support on something you must contact me through e-mail (choose Contact Us from the Support menu at the top). It says in my profile as well that you must contact me through e-mail. If you don’t take the time to read my profile for more information before you IM me then I can assume that you haven’t read the instructions for the product that you’re seeking support for.

I’ve been extremely busy in real life lately so my Second Life time is GREATLY limited… I haven’t logged in for more than 5 minutes in the last 2 weeks. That’s why you must contact me through e-mail if you want a response to your request as I can’t login to respond to IMs.

ShopTrack Surveys

I’ve placed a table on the 3rd floor of the Union Micro store which contains some surveys pertaining to our upcoming service, ShopTrack. Take the 12-question survey and receive a free Elevator Controller worth L$100. There is also an info cube which you can touch to get information about ShopTrack.

Mule and Industrial doors released

I released these two products yesterday. The Mule elevator car retails for $1300 instead of the usual $1500 because it intentionally lacks some of the fancy features of the “modern” themed cars. The Industrial doors use similar texturing as the Mule so they should be used together. The doors also feature a new buzzer sound when they open.

New Look!

Union Micro is now sporting a new look! Thanks to my friend Drew over at Central Gaming Network for creating the template and to WordPress for being so flexible for integration into the template! Work is still on-going as I fine-tune some things such as creating the contact page.

Some of the features of the new site are the three boxes that stand out in the middle of the page. The first two supply you with the last four posts in the Site Updates and Product Updates categories. The third box gives you a snapshot of what’s in progress at Union Micro right now. I’ve created a menu across the top that drops down and I’ve grouped things as best as I could. The Pages, Categories and Archives sections are WordPress related, so they’re in their in their own drop downs.

I’ve also added links in the footer that allow you to subscribe to my RSS feed with different RSS-related websites. There’s also a link to Firefox – during the creation of this site I’ve witnessed first-hand just how DUMB Internet Explorer 6 is. If you’re still using Internet Explorer 6, I strongly suggest that you make the switch. I must admit that I haven’t tried Internet Explorer 7 so that may be a different story.

Elevator bug fix.

This is a pretty critical problem which has been fixed. Basically the “_queue” script wasn’t clearing certain floors from the queue so it was going into an infinite-loop and crashing when it ran out of memory. A big downfall of this is that it will tell your doors to open a hundred-million times (not literally), so you may need to delete and replace your car. This has been fixed and I’ll probably send out the update Friday night/Saturday morning. I’m just too tired at the moment to package everything up again after doing it last night and it’s almost 4am. If you want to send me an instant message in-world I’ll send you the 2 scripts or an update disk. Yes, this update will finally use the update disk… however I want to test something on the update disk to make sure it works properly before sending out this update.

I also need to work on the update listed below so I may just send them out together… then again that update isn’t very important so I may wait on it. This update won’t completely use the update disk though, because it requires a modification to the notecard in the doors. You’ll probably have to manually add the commands into your notecards.

Update: 1.6.1 elevator cars are in the update server as well as the CORRECT version of the doors this time.

Access lists and teleports

Just an FYI, the teleport feature is in no way linked to the access lists of the elevator car. If you have access lists configured for your elevator car, then I suggest not using the “Set TPs” option in the controller because this will allow people to just teleport to that floor. Once you set the TPs then you can’t undo it without resetting the doors.

I’ll be adding a simple fix for this in the future so that you can restrict teleports in each direction for each floor. For example AllowTPUp and AllowTPDown – this should give you enough control to exclude certain floors from the TP feature. Unfortunately due to how the teleports work I’m unable to add access lists to the teleport feature.
